About the Festival
Weapons of Mass Creation Fest is a three day event featuring 20 speakers, 20 designers, and over 30 bands. The primary goal of the festival is to enable creativity and to inspire through learning, collaboration, and networking. Attendees are treated with ten inspiring talks each day on topics like entrepreneurship, leadership, graphic design, creativity, and more. This year marks the fourth Weapons of Mass Creation Fest, and an expected 1,200+ people are expected to attend from across the Midwest.
Benefit Concert at Beachland Ballroom
The Weapons of Mass Creation Fest is not a cheap endeavor–the budget for this year’s festival is a whopping $175,000. In hopes of raising money to make the 2013 festival possible, a benefit concert was held this past Friday at Beachland Ballroom.
The evening began with the sister duo Shisho, featuring 16-year-old Vivian and her 12-year-old little sister Midge. The girls put on an exciting and energy-filled performance of their original songs including “Rocks a Penalties,” a musical number about poison rainbows, puking unicorns, and a Smiths reunion, and “It’s Coming to Get You,” a song about an evil clown.
Following Shisho, electro-pop artist Freeze-Tag took the stage for a visual performance filled with soulful vocals and synthy electronic sounds.
Leah Lou & The 2 Left Shoes, a duo comprised of Leah Lou and Daniel Lee, took the stage next for a performance filled with the perfect combination of simple and memorable tunes, sincere lyrics, and the honest and unique voice of Leah Lou.
Ohio Sky, the final performers of the evening, delighted the small crowd with their ambient rock sounds and powerful vocals.
All of these performers will be playing at the Weapons of Mass Creation Fest 2013.
